Heart of Gold is a love story centered around Shannon Adair, who moves with her father, a minister from Virginia to the western city of Grand Coeur. Shannon, who was brought up in a pretty wealthy family, loses most all she has, due to the Civil War and is certain that she will never enjoy living in Grand Coeur. Matthew Dubouis, a Wells Fargo driver, takes a desk job in Grand Coeur to take care of his sick and dying widowed sister, and her boy. Matthew cannot stand still and begins to realize he will need a wife to look after his nephew while he is traveling. Both Dubouis and Adair believe each other to be incompatible, who will never have a deeper relationship than friends. However love strikes, and this is the story of how it all happens.
I was deeply surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. For being a “romantic” book, I really liked the story line, and was impressed that it left me thinking from a different perspective of marriage. Like any “romantic” type book you can guess the ending to the book, it’s the in-between that is keeps you going, and this book did a very good job, keeping me captivated. Looking for an easy enjoyable read, I would definitely recommend this book.
I received this book free from the publisher and am not required to write a positive review, but one of my own opinion.
